It has been a long time since I photographed agility. Like, a single trial two years ago. But I wanted to try again, so I had my eye out for agility events nearby that didn't have a photographer yet.
When the flyer for the Susque-Nango Kennel Club AKC agility trials came across my Facebook feed, I immediately went to the premium to see whether they had a photographer. It was my lucky day! The club did not have a photographer yet, and they were happy to have me come photograph.
I was pretty nervous about this event because it had been so long since I had photographed agility. It is a notoriously difficult sport to photograph, especially at indoor events (which is most of them!).
I have a friend, Michelle of The Spotted Tongue Photography, who frequently photographs agility, and she was kind enough to give me some pointers. Michelle really knows what she's doing and I love her work. Her work was my inspiration when photographing this event, and it really helped me create consistent photos.
The club members and exhibitors were so kind and welcoming. There was no need for me to be nervous, and I was really happy with my work from this event.
I was especially thrilled to see how kind everyone, including the judge, was to the Junior Handler who was showing. Juniors are the future of dog sports and I love seeing them working with their dogs! It is so important to give them positive experiences early on, and the Susque-Nango Kennel Club did a great job of that.
This agility event was so inspiring! Not only do I hope to photograph more agility soon, but I also hope to start doing agility with my dogs! I have another agility event scheduled for 2027 and I am really excited to capture it!
